As always with a new country, I’ll do one post as in information dump and one as a travel guide. Peru blew my mind. My expeditions didn’t stretch beyond cusco, Manchu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain to be honest as by this point, I wasn’t planning anything before I got to each country.
I crossed the boarder in to the beautiful coastal town called Mancora. The beach was Devine, fun for surfing and the town itself was quaint! From here, I travelled on through Trujillo, Huacachina, Arequipa, Lima, Cusco, Nazca, Puno and Lake Titicaca with I’m sure a few more stops along the way!
Bus routes around the country are pretty well connected, a lot of backpackers used explore Peru bus passes which go to all the main/up and coming locations as well as allowing you to meet others on a similar venture. There are a mix of hotels from chilled out vibes to crazy party hostels (a big chain being Wild Rover). In regards to the culture, I found locals to be really kind and willing to share stories and information. Do expect a lot of people on streets and hikes to try to sell selfies with alpacas though!
Overall, the country would get a solid 9/10 rating. The diversity of experiences in this country gets most the points. A one stop shot for beaches, Andes hikes, canyons, bird watching, partying, city breaks, ruins, history and more along with beautiful scenery, food and people!
As always, my next post (tomorrow) will be a guide to travelling Peru and each location I stopped in – stay tuned!
