I was massively under prepared when I flew to Rome as we’d booked the trip two days before leaving however, luckily, my friend Isla (we met in Colombia’s last year and hadn’t seen each other since) had compiled a list of ‘must do’s’ and from our experience, I’ve created this fabulous guide to all things Rome🥰
Transport
My first observation is that the city is so well connected that you don’t have to worry too much about having time to get between sights. We preferred to walk as much as possible so we could get lost in Italy’s beautiful streets and discover great places to eat but there are busses, a metro system, trains, trams and electrical scooters & bikes!

Food & drinks
Here is what was on our list to do in Rome:
•Gran caffe rossi martini right infront of colloseum
•Aroma for view of colloseum (Michelin)
•PIZZA near Vatican: Pizza Zizza Caffetteria •Birreria Desserteria (cheap).
•Trannello in travestere
•Cornetto for breakfast
•Limoncello
•Cacio e pepe pasta (traditional local dish)

View points
There are so many ways to see the city! Below are a few of my favs:
- Giardino degli Arabci
- Terraza del pincio
- Janiculum terrace (picnic spot)
- St. Peter’s dome

Extra recommendations
Starting with the obvious…
- Palatine hill/Roman forum
- colosseum
- Trevi fountain
- Pantheon
- St. Peter’s basilica
- Ponte San Angelo (and the river below the bride for great shots)
- Spanish steps
- Villa borghese

As always, check out the highlight on my insta page @lucystraveldiary as it has allllll the best spots tagged!
